Meet the Holloways

The Holloways
Founders of Mungu With Us
Keith & Erin Holloway

Our “about us” began 11 years ago.   We originally met at church in middle school; however, it was during an unfortunate looking period in both of our lives.  We re-met during high school at First Baptist Hendersonville Summer Camp! We ignited a friendship immediately,  and began dating July 1, 2003.  We got married on June 27, 2009 and have been living happily ever after.

I (Erin) felt called to long-term missions a bit before Keith felt the call. I was at FCA camp in St. Simmons, Georgia my freshman year in high school. The worship band was leading and a song from Hillsong United was being played (You Said). The chorus of this song states “distant shores and the islands will see the light.” In this moment, the Lord audibly spoke to me and stated that “You will go to the distant shores to see and be the light.” I patiently waited for the time that this would occur. I continued to actively participate in local and short-term foreign missions, until the day the Lord revealed His will.

Keith had also participated in many mission trips throughout high school, college, and into adulthood – Mexico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Alaska, Montana, New Orleans, Honduras, Uganda, and Kenya. Shortly after we were married, Keith and I began to pray where the Lord would have us serve. We said if it is in Gallatin, TN we will answer. If it is across the oceans, we will answer. However, the Lord did not begin to really prick Keith’s heart until he visited Kenya in 2010. He felt a connection immediately with the people. He led a trip the very next year, yearning to return in Kenya. In 2013, we were able to travel to Kenya together for the first time. The trip was a disaster!  Sickness and spiritual attacks were ever present on this trip. Despite the hardships faced on this trip, we prayed that the Lord would reveal if Kenya was the place we were to go and serve. Over the next 6 months, the Lord continued to poke and prod our hearts toward Kenya. Keith had the opportunity to return to Kenya in January of 2014.After this trip, we both knew wholeheartedly that Kenya was where the Lord was leading us.

We are reminded by Ruth that our attitude should always be focused on God. All people are His people. We may be called to serve them next door, on a short term trip, or full time around the world. Ruth 1:16 – “But Ruth replied, Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”

“Mungu with Us” was born. We searched the Word and wanted to incorporate how  God had led us  to this point.  The verse that defines our Godgiven passion is Romans 10:14 – “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” We are moving to Kisumu, Kenya to take the Gospel to the nations. It is our sincere desire to live out what James calls “pure and undefiled religion.”  Thank you for joining us on this journey and reading about “Mungu with Us.”

  2. I am considering a trip to Kisumu with FBC The Villages, FL early in September. If our paths don’t cross at FBC Hendersonville before you leave maybe we can meet in Kisumu.
